Consular Warden Message
The U.S. Embassy in Doha has learned that starting October 2, 2007, people who have not paid fines for traffic violations will not be allowed to travel out of the country. Those who fail to pay the penalty for a traffic violation within 60 days will be charged an additional fine of 1 Qatari Riyal (QR) per day. Violators can access the Ministry of Interior website address of http://www.moi.gov.qa/ after October 2 to check for and pay any fines. The penalties will be posted on the above website immediately after the traffic violation occurred. Please note that the U.S. Embassy cannot provide assistance to U.S. citizens subject to a travel ban due to failure to pay these fines.
On Sunday, October 7, 2007, the U.S Embassy will be closed in observation of the Columbus Day holiday. The U.S. Embassy will also be closed from Sunday, October 14, through Tuesday, October 16, 2007, in observation of the Eid al Fitr.
