Road Construction and Embassy Holiday Schedule

Embassy Holiday Hours of Operation and
Revised Access to U.S. Embassy due to Construction

The U.S. Embassy would like to alert American citizens to new access restrictions due to ongoing road construction projects near the Embassy.  Starting on December 9, 2007, 22 February Street (D-Ring Road) is now completely closed between Immigration and Al Sudan Roundabouts.  All access east of the Embassy is now blocked, including the gravel access road that previously allowed drivers to cross 22 February Street from the east.  Access is available on a composite material slip-road that parallels 22 February Street along the side nearest the Embassy.  A new temporary parking lot is available in front of the Embassy for visa applicants and American citizens.

Several routes to the Embassy remain open, but American citizens and visa applicants should plan sufficient travel time to the Embassy to arrive on time for American Citizen Services or for a visa interview.  All construction activity, its impact upon the road network, and accessibility to the Embassy is subject to change with little to no advance notice from Ashghal or the construction company building the new road.  At this time, the Embassy cannot predict when the road construction project will be completed.  However, we anticipate the road works could go on for another 12 to 24 months.

The U.S. Embassy will be officially closed for Qatar’s National Day on December 18, Eid al-Adha on December 19, 20, and 23, Christmas Eve on December 24, and Christmas Day on December 25, 2007.  Due to the extended closure, the Embassy will open for American Citizens Services on Monday, December 17, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.  If an emergency should occur during any of these holidays, American citizens can contact the Embassy duty officer at 488-4101, ext. 6600, at any time.
