Embassy Promotes Environmental Awareness
On November 20, Public Affairs Officer (PAO) Joey Hood accompanied students on an Embassy-sponsored program to a local paper mill to learn about recycling. The program, which focuses on environmental awareness-raising administered by the Center for Environment Friends (CEF), brings students from Doha schools on field visits to environmentally friendly businesses and institutions. Ten girls from the Al-Rifa’a Independent Elementary School, two teachers, CEF officials, and Embassy staff toured the factory and learned how waste paper is transformed into new paper used for packaging. The mill produces 40 tons of new paper every day from discarded boxes and papers, saving over 210,000 trees per year compared to mills that use wood pulp.
At the end of the tour, the PAO presented a gift-bag of books and other materials on the environment to the students and CEF to help the students in their quest to learn more about environmentally responsible business.
