American Embassy begins annual reading program at local schools

The Public Affairs Section at the American Embassy in Doha began its annual story telling sessions last week. For the fourth year, The American Embassy celebrated International Reading Day by having Americans living in Qatar read stories to local students. Mrs. Laura Fabrycky, an American Embassy community member visited Al-Rifa’a Independent School for Girls to read the American story "A Pocket For Corduroy", written by Don Freeman.

At the end of the session a copy of the book was given to each student, while other books were donated to the teachers and school library. Mrs. Fabrycky visited the school with the American Embassy’s Student Advisor who had the opportunity to speak with the school educators who gathered to observe the story-telling. On behalf of the American Embassy, they thanked the school management from Al-Rifa’a Independent School for Girls for the invitation to visit the school and for their warm hospitality and generosity.

The American Embassy plans to continue this successful activity with future visits to schools in Qatar. Schools interested in participating in this program should contact the Student Advisor at the American Embassy at 488-4101 ext 6149.
