Ambassador LeBaron Meets Governor of Oregon To Discuss Ways of Expanding Relations Between Qatar and Oregon

 August 28, 2009

The U.S. Ambassador to Qatar,  Joseph LeBaron,  met with the Honorable Ted Kulongoski, Governor of the U.S. state of Oregon, on August 28th in Portland, Oregon, to discuss ways to expand cultural, commercial and educational relations between Qatar and Oregon.  Since the early 1970s, hundreds of Qataris have lived and studied in Oregon, and through them, the people of Oregon have come to know the Qatari people and to appreciate Qatar's history, culture, and international contributions towards development, peace, and prosperity.

The Ambassador and the Governor discussed a number of ways to further develop the excellent relationship between Oregon and Qatar, with a focus on trade and commerce.   Ambassador LeBaron will work closely with the Governor and with Qatar's Ambassador to the United States, Ali bin Fahad al-Hajri, on a proposal that Governor Kulongoski lead an Oregon trade mission to Qatar in 2010.
