Types of Visas

Medical Patients Visas For an expedited appointment for urgent medical travel, please call call 488-4101 during our normal office hours and ask for Consular Section or send an email to NIVConsularDoha@state.gov.  After hours, please call 488-4101 and ask for the duty officer. 

Individuals who seek medical treatment in the United States are required to apply for and travel to the United States on a B-2 non-immigrant visa. We care about your continued good health and will assist you in the visa process so you will be able to travel as quickly as possible.

To apply: follow the instructions for a B1/B2 visa application and bring in the additional documents listed below.

(These must be provided at the interview)

1. A letter from the treating doctor in the United States including the following:

  • A statement that the patient's medical files have been reviewed;
  • Time/date for medical appointment and/or needed procedures;
  • The estimated period of time that the patient will be in the United States;
  • The estimated total cost of treatment in the United States.

2. Provide proof of ability to pay for the cost of the treatment and travel.( For Qatari passport holders, a letter from the Qatari government stating that the Qatari government will cover all expenses is sufficient proof.)

3. A letter from the hospital's financial department stating the patient has paid in advance or they are completely satisfied they will receive total reimbursement for all medical care provided.(Required only for those patients who do not have a letter of financial support from the Qatari government).
