About the Embassy

History

The U.S. Mission in Qatar dates from the 1973 opening of the U.S. Embassy in Doha. At present, Mission elements include the U.S. State Department and the Department of Defense.

In carrying out U.S. policy, the U.S. Mission works to support Qatar's development through a vide variety of technical assistance and educational programs administered through its constituents.

As part of the Mission, the U.S. Embassy is responsible for maintaining a day-to-day relations between the U.S. and Qatari governments, and for providing consular services to both Qatari and American citizens. The Public Affairs Section is responsible for informing local audiences about the U.S., for conducting educational exchanges and partnerships and for keeping the media informed on U.S. policy.
