The conference in progress |
In collaboration with the Higher Education Institute at the Supreme Education Council, the American Embassy coordinated a live Digital Video Conference with admissions officers and a Qatari student at Penn State University for Qatari students and scholarship officers in Doha. The Embassy was pleased to use its resources to bridge the time zones to help both sides learn more about how to increase the number of Qatari youth studying at top-flight U.S. universities. The admissions officers praised their students from the Gulf, and Qatar in particular, noting there are currently over 125 students from the GCC and four Qatari students enrolled at Penn State. The Qatari student participant spoke about her experiences as a Muslim woman from Qatar studying in the United States, explaining that her first few months in America were difficult because she was away from her family for the first time, but that because of the support of the International Student Office, the Muslim Student Association and her fellow students, she has fully adjusted, and she is proud of her accomplishments as a student at Penn State University.
