  • The US Embassy participates in Qatar’s National Sports Day (February 14, 2012)

    The U.S. Embassy participated in Qatar’s first annual National Sports Day, February 14th. Ambassador Ziadeh and over forty members of the U.S. Embassy community attended a series of events hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Kharaitiyat area. The morning began with a group walk led by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Khalid Al-Attiya, followed by soccer and volleyball friendship matches between the Qataris and the diplomatic community. Many U.S. Embassy employees enjoyed playing in – and watching – the games. The day’s emphasis on healthy living and sportsmanship resonated with everyone who seized the opportunity to spend a beautiful day outside being active with their families and friends.

    IRC Director does a presentation on U.S. Elections to journalists at Al Arab (February 13, 2012)

    U.S. Embassy Information Resource Center Director Praveen Menon visited the offices of Al Arab newspaper to conduct a brief presentation on the American election process. After discussing the process by which a U.S. President assumes power, Mr. Menon showed Al Arab journalists useful International Information Programs (IIP) internet reference resources for future stories on the 2012 U.S. Presidential Election.

  • US Embassy Hosts American Soccer Coach Sari Rose (January 30 - February 2, 2012)

    U.S. Embassy Doha was proud to host American soccer coach, Sari Rose, as the first Sports Envoy for 2012. Ms. Rose is a doctoral candidate at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and a coach at North Carolina Youth Soccer Association. Ms. Rose started off her tour in Doha with a visit to Al Jazeera Academy, where she spoke with over fifty Qatari girls about life on and off the field and conducted a soccer clinic.  More... »

  • Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al-Thani of Qatar in Washington (January 11, 2012)

    Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar H.E. Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani met with Vice President Joseph Biden in Washington yesterday. While in Washington, His Excellency also met with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and National Security Advisor Tom Donilon. During the meetings, they reiterated the importance of the strong relationship between Qatar and the United States, and reviewed regional issues.     Representative Steve Chabot arrived in Qatar on a one day visit. Representative Chabot, who is the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia, met with senior Qatari officials to discuss bilateral relations and latest developments in the region.

    House Majority Leader Eric Cantor visits Qatar (January 8, 2012)

    A delegation of nine members of congress, led by U.S. House Majority leader Representative Eric Cantor, visited Doha January 8-10. During this trip they met with a number of senior Qatari officials to discuss bilateral relations and issues concerning the region. This delegation was comprised of Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT), Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chair of House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), Chair of House Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs, Rep.
