Doha Book Fair a Success for U.S. Publishers
The 19th edition of the Doha International Book Fair, which ran from December 24 to January 3, was an excellent opportunity for Qatar’s residents to sample literature from the United States and around the region. An estimated 10,000 people streamed through the “American Pavilion” at the fair, where U.S. publishers offered their wares through direct sales and through Foreign Commercial Service representation. The Embassy’s Public Affairs Section also sold American classics in both English and Arabic, and passed out hundreds of informational pamphlets about American life. Embassy staff sold or gave away dozens of books and guides on the U.S. educational system and spoke with countless students interested in continuing their studies in America. Poster shows depicting aspects of American life were featured at the pavilion, along with video displays of scenes from contemporary America.
