How to apply

Application Procedures

Visa applicants between the ages of 14 and 79 must be interviewed in person by a U.S. Consular Officer.  Children aged 13 and under do not need to come to the U.S. Embassy.

Applicants for visas should generally apply at the American Embassy or Consulate with jurisdiction over their place of permanent residence.  Although visa applicants may apply at any U.S. consular office abroad, it may be more difficult to qualify for a visa outside your country of residence.  For example, those applying at the U.S. Embassy in Doha should be Qatari citizens or hold legal Qatari residency and be able to demonstrate strong economic, familial and/or social ties to Qatar.  All non-Qatari citizen applicants must have residency permits that extend through their anticipated dates of travel.

Steps in the Application Process:

1)Get the FORMS.

2) Get your PHOTO.

3) Pay the FEE.

4) Gather your DOCUMENTS.

5) Get an APPOINTMENT.

6) Go to your INTERVIEW.

7) Application CHECKLIST.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:  All construction activity, its impact upon the road network, and accessibility to the Embassy is subject to change with little to no advance notice.

Several routes to the U.S. Embassy remain open, but U.S. Citizens and visa applicants should plan sufficient travel time to the U.S. Embassy to arrive on time for U.S. Citizen Services or for a visa interview appointment.
