Exchange Alumni Come Together for an Evening of Friendship
Embassy of the United States of America
Doha, Qatar
For Immediate Release
December 2, 2008
U.S. Ambassador to Qatar Joseph LeBaron welcomed dozens of Qataris to his home for a celebration of U.S. educational and cultural exchange programs. In his welcoming remarks, the Ambassador noted that cross-cultural experiences such as these were vital to fostering tolerance and understanding between our peoples.
As an example of growing cooperation in the educational sector, the Ambassador announced that the number of Qataris studying at U.S. institutions had reached record levels, with student and exchange visa applications soaring more than 35% in 2008, a trend that he predicted would only strengthen.
Invitees at the Ambassador's reception had participated in an array of courses sponsored by the Embassy designed to help them further their careers, enhance their leadership skills, or learn more about the United States. Themes of U.S. exchange programs included topics such as interfaith dialogue, the development of democratic institutions, and journalism.
Qataris interested in Embassy-sponsored exchange programs available to people from a variety of professional backgrounds should visit the Embassy website http://qatar.usembassy.gov and click on "Educational Exchange Opportunities."
