U.S. Ambassador sees off Qatari Trade delegation visitng AAIW in Las Vegas

U.S. Ambassador to Qatar Joseph LeBaron hosted at his residence an official Qatari trade delegation traveling to the United States for the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week Show (AAIW) in Las Vegas, Nevada from November 4 – 7, 2008.
The Qatari trade mission -- escorted by the U.S. Embassy’s Commercial Service -- will explore business opportunities with American suppliers at the AAIW. This is the flagship event for the U.S. automotive aftermarket industry, mobilizing over 120,000 professionals and over 3,300 exhibitors.At the pre-departure briefing, the Ambassador stressed that the Qatari trade mission is an example of the strong economic ties between U.S. and Qatar, which bring about benefits and create opportunities for both sides. The mission will help Qatari firms develop American business contacts, solidify business strategies and obtain fresh market information. “Members of the trade mission expect to do business with U.S. automotive suppliers, and by doing so, they will gain access to the latest and best U.S. products and services,” the Ambassador said.
In 2007, the United States became Qatar’s top import partner. Total two-way trade between the United States and Qatar reached $3.2 billion in 2007, representing a 110% increase from the previous year. The United States also continues to be Qatar’s largest investor, accounting for $7 billion in 2007, up almost $2 billion from the previous year.
Last year, Qatar imported $2.6 billion in vehicles and vehicle parts.
