  • Congressional Delegation Lead by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi Visits Qatar (May 11, 2012)

    A congressional delegation lead by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi visited Doha this weekend. Ms. Pelosi was accompanied by Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, and Congresswoman Terri Sewell. The group met with His Excellency Dr. Khalid Bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, to discuss U.S.-Qatar relations and security issues in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. The group also visited with U.S. military servicemen and women in Qatar. Ms. Pelosi said: “We are always honored to meet with our brave men and women in uniform on official trips abroad. I am pleased this year to once again visit on Mother’s Day weekend and look forward to expressing our deep gratitude to the many mothers serving in our U.S. Armed Forces as we continue this delegation visit.” 

  • U.S. Embassy supports Qatar Debate’s 5th Annual Championships (April 28, 2012)

    The US Embassy in Doha was proud to support Qatar Debate’s 5th Annual National English Debate Championships on Saturday, April 28, 2012. The finalists – teams from Qatar Academy and DPS Modern Indian School – debated whether or not nuclear power should be abolished. The level of rhetoric and enthusiasm among these students, as well as the over 130 debaters who participated in the competition overall, was inspirational. The Embassy’s Public Affairs Counselor remarked to the group, “As former U.S. Vice President Hubert Humphrey said, ‘Freedom is hammered out on the anvil of discussion, dissent, and debate.’ You – the youth of this region - truly represent the future leadership of the world.”   Picture>> »

  • Public Affairs Officer Celebrates Earth Day with Qatari Students (April 28, 2012)

    In celebration of Earth Day, the Public Affairs Officer at the US Embassy visited the Al Dakhira mangroves with about 30 Qatar Foundation International staff and students and representatives from Conservation International. Students used smartphone technology for mangrove mapping and environmental reporting. This trip is part of QFI’s Global Schools Network, and it prepared students for their participation in the December 2012 COP 18 Climate Change Conference.   Picture >> »

  • United States Embassy Celebrates its Independence Day saying “Welcome to America” (April 24, 2012)

    The United States Embassy in Doha celebrated the 236th anniversary of American Independence Day at the Ritz-Carlton hotel on the evening of April 24th. Ambassador Susan L.     The US Embassy Cultural and Press Attaché attended Qatar University’s First Annual Qatar Literacy Conference. The U.S. Embassy in Doha is proud to support Qatar’s education and literacy initiatives, including Qatar University’s “Strengthening Literacy Policy in Qatar” program.   • Girls’ creativity center and MEPI launch women’s film-making project (April 17, 2012)

    On April 17th, the U.S. Embassy Cultural Attache, Project Director Abdelrahman Najdi and Chairperson of the Girls’ Creativity Center Hanadi Al Darwish launched the MEPI-funded women’s film-making project. They spoke about the power of film to promote cross-cultural dialogue, and their support for the young Qatari women who will attend trainings and craft films about their priorities in Qatar.  Picture >> »

  • Ambassador Ziadeh Addresses Incoming Qatari Diplomats at Qatar’s New Diplomatic Institute (April 16, 2012)

    Ambassador Ziadeh visited Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Diplomatic Institute to discuss U.S.-Qatar bilateral relations with new Qatari diplomats and MFA staff. Ambassador Ziadeh focused on U.S.-Qatari partnerships in the political, economic, military, and cultural fields. Following the lecture, the Ambassador took questions from the incoming diplomats and staff members about life in the diplomatic field and the bilateral relationship.
