Joseph LeBaron nominated new US Ambassador to Qatar

The Embassy of the United States of America in Doha is pleased to announce that President George W. Bush has nominated Joseph Evan LeBaron as the new U.S. Ambassador to the State of Qatar. 

A career diplomat, LeBaron began his diplomatic career in Doha in 1980.  From 2003 to 2006, he was the U.S. Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.  He also has served as the U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission in Manama, and as U.S. Consul General in Dubai.


LeBaron holds a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Studies from Princeton University.  LeBaron, a fluent Arabic speaker, also has studied at the American University of Beirut and the University of Khartoum. 

Ambassador-designate LeBaron must now be confirmed by the U.S. Senate before taking his new post in Doha.

Embassy celebrates Earth Day 2008

As part of Embassy' Earth Day 2008 celebrations on Tuesday April 22nd, Joey Hood, Public Affairs Officer visited Abdelrahman Bin Jassim Independent School in Al-Wakrah for the performance of a student play highlight the protection of nature. Mr. Hood planted a tree on the school grounds and gave out Earth Day 2008 posters to the school. Michael Ratney, Chargé d’affaires of the American Embassy visited the Abu Ayoub Al Ansari government middle school. He toured a display of student science exhibits and was introduced to the different displays by the school art groups...(more)

 

American Embassy welcomes students from Nasser bin Abdullah Al-Attiya Independent School

Michael Ratney, Charge d’Affaires of the American Embassy in Doha, welcomed a group of Grade 10 students and teachers from the Nasser bin Abdullah Al-Attiya Independent School to the American Embassy.  During their visit, the students met with representatives from the Ambassador’s office, the Public Affairs Section, Economics Section and the educational advising office to learn about the work done in an American Embassy overseas.  The students were provided with information about scholarships and educational opportunities in the United States through the educational advising office.  If your school or organization has a group of students interested in visiting the American Embassy, please contact the educational advising office at 488-4101 ext 6149

PAO donates books to Bright Future Pakistani School (April, 2008) 

 
 PAO Hood donating books

U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer Joey Hood donated a collection of more than 100 books on diverse themes to the Bright Future Pakistani School. During the event, the PAO viewed the students’ prize-winning scale models of famous landmarks such as San Francisco’s Golden Gate bridge and other projects that earned the school a second-place award at the annual Flower and Vegetable Fair competition.... (MORE)
